Welcome to Untangled S2C!
Untangled provides Spelling to Communicate (S2C) services to individuals with apraxia of speech so that they may one day share their voice with the world. We operate both in-person and virtually to increase our reach to those we serve.
What is S2C?
Spelling to Communicate (adorably known as S2C) teaches individuals with motor difficulties to skills that are necessary to accurately point to letters on a letterboard to spell out what they want to communicate. S2C is a form of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
In S2C, we focus on addressing this motor difference. We teach the motor control that is needed to point to letters to spell and accurately reveal their thoughts, opinions, and cognitive abilities. S2C is a skill, and like any other skill, it can be mastered with time and quality practice. The goal is to reach open communication.
S2C is a skill designed specifically for nonspeakers- including traditionally nonspeaking, minimally nonspeaking, and unreliably speaking individuals.

Alexa Powell, MPH-PAPH
Director of Untangled
I-ASC Certified S2C Practitioner
Alexa has a Master’s in Public Health, specializing in Physical Activity. She has always had a passion for working with the disability community, specifically in policy work. One of the most important parts of policy work is getting to know the community you are serving and learning about their needs. Once she learned about the nonspeaking community, Alexa knew she wanted to work with them to enhance their communication skills so that one day they may advocate for themselves and their fellow nonspeakers when it comes to policies that are enacted on their behalf.
